Do You Really Get What You Pay For ?

We have all heard the expression you get what you pay for. The most common interpretation of this statement is the less you pay for a product or service then the quality of the product or service will reflect this lower price, and if we pay a higher price then we expect the quality of this product or service to reflect this also. This is a reasonable expectation. All too often, the unfortunate reality is that we don't always get what we pay for and have regrets after the deal is done.

One of the most common misconceptions about heating, ventilation and air conditioning products is that Brand Name is the best indicator of quality. In fairness to manufacturers some are better than others but this is not the main criterion you should use in your selection process. You may do yourself a great disservice if you forget this point.

The most important factor regarding central air conditioners and heat pumps, without exception, is the quality of the installation.

A high-end Heating, Ventilation or Air Conditioning system installed in an unprofessional manor, without regard for quality of installation will not perform any better than a low-end system installed with great emphasis on the quality of the installation.

Furthermore, using the above example, the operating expenses associated with the high-end system may very well exceed that of the low-end system greatly over the lifetime of the equipment.

These expenses will show in increased monthly energy costs, maintenance costs, and equipment breakdowns. There are also concerns about indoor air quality, and noise.

To get the best value for your dollar educate yourself about the product that you are interested in. You don’t have to learn everything about it. You just need to know what you want and what you can expect from the equipment.
